A man confessed to injuring police officers during an altercation in Ubon Ratchathani, claiming it was unintentional. The provincial governor has cancelled remaining festivities after 12 teenagers were arrested for assaulting officers at a local event.

Today, April 7, Police Major General Patiyot Singhsomroj, Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police Commander, along with Police Colonel Pornsak Lueanakh of Phibun Mangsahan Police Station, reviewed a video capturing the incident. The footage, provided by a concerned citizen, shows two groups of teenagers engaging in a brawl. Twelve people have been charged with assaulting officers on duty.

The charges include severely injuring officers and resisting arrest. The brawl occurred during a local festival, with seven of the teenagers apprehended. Among the arrested was 34 year old Itthisak, also known as Khrut, who admitted to using a stick to strike officers.

He claimed he acted to protect a younger friend being attacked, inadvertently hitting the officers. He was unaware that the people were Police Sub-Lieutenant Bancha Najan and Police Sergeant Major Nattapon Sriwichaikaew, due to the chaotic situation.

Itthisak, recently released from prison after a drug-related sentence four days prior, was involved in the altercation. The investigation revealed that weapons used during the fight included tables, chairs, and sticks found at the venue. There was no indication that the teenagers brought weapons with intent to harm.

Following the event, Deputy Governor Adisak Noisuwan ordered the cancellation of the festival’s entertainment on the night of April 7 to prevent further incidents. Maj. Gen. Patiyot stated that the clash led the suspects to attack two officers and one police volunteer.

Arrest warrants have been issued for 12 people, with remaining evidence being compiled. Charges include resisting and assaulting officers and their assistants, resulting in severe injuries.

Clear video evidence from both police and citizens supports the arrests. Some suspects have admitted their involvement, suggesting the attack was impulsive, triggered by the officers’ intervention. The improvised weapons used were sourced from the venue, not premeditated, reported KhaoSod.
